Sal’s NBL Draft – Day 4 Wrap

Day 4 of the Player Draft registration period started with a bang as news broke that Tall Blacks star Jarrod Kenny had nominated for the June 11 draft.

Another interesting name to show up on the draft registrations was American Nelson Kirksey (pictured). The Pittsburgh native is connected to New Zealand via his partner, and though he is currently in Australia, he remains an outside chance of being able to fly in and compete in the League.

Kirksey played in 2019 in the Big V League (Melbourne, Australia) with Broadmeadows Broncos, while in 2018 he played in the same competition for Hawthorn Magic where he won the competition's Men's Championship MVP for the season.

If he can get the all clear to travel to Auckland, Kirksey looms as a bolter in the Sal's NBL Player Draft and could well catch a few teams by surprise.

By day's end the number of registrations was closing in on 400, no doubt creating a lot of work for the coaches of all seven teams as they start preparing for the Pre-Selection window, which starts on Saturday June 6.

While talk about Kenny's registration was making plenty of news, there was also plenty of talk about the venue for the 2020 competition, which was released late on Wednesday.
