Sal’s NBL Rules Explained: Transfer Window

The Sal's NBL wants to ensure fans are kept up to date with the rules that govern the competition, hopefully helping fans to get closer to the game and gain a greater understanding of the rules and regulations all the teams have to abide by.

Season 2020 in the Sal's NBL will see the introduction of a Transfer Window.

While players have been able to move from one team to another during the season in past years, in 2020 the rules have become more defined and clearer.

Also, unlike previous years, no longer does a player have to 'stand down' from playing for a certain number of days if they do transfer to a new team.

Both the men's and women's competitions have a Transfer Window. Here's how it works;

TRANSFER WINDOW

Sal's NBL Men

  • Players, restricted or un-restricted, can transfer from one team to another at time between 24 hours before the first game of Round 2 and 24 hours before the first game of Round 8. This will be known as the Transfer Window.
  • There will be no stand-down time for any player transferring from one team to another.
  • A player can only transfer from one team to another team during the Transfer Window if they or the team they are contracted to have correctly invoked the applicable termination clause in their current agreement or if both parties have mutually agreed to terminate the agreement.
  • Players, restricted or un-restricted, cannot transfer from one team to another team after the first game played in Round 8.
  • A player cannot transfer back to a team he has transferred from, within the same season.

Sal's NBL Women

  • A player can only transfer from one team to another team during the Transfer Window if they or the team they are contracted to have correctly invoked the applicable termination clause in their current agreement or if both parties have mutually agreed to terminate the agreement.
  • Players, restricted or un-restricted, cannot transfer from one team to another team after the first game played in Round 4.
