Sharks rout Jets

The SIT Zerofees Sharks have cruised to a 109-79 win over the struggling Go Media Jets.

ILT Stadium has been such a stronghold for the Sharks, and tonight it was no different as they put on 62 points by halftime, going up 31.

Southland would push their lead to as many as 41, allowing head coach Judd Flavell to distribute the minutes to his bench. Jarrad Weeks scored a team high 18 points in only 21 minutes, and Luke Aston added 16 points, starting in place of usual starter, Orlando Coleman, who did not play tonight.

Manawatu were fully reliant on their import duo Daishon Knight and Kuran Iverson, both players putting up the bulk of the shots, and scoring all but one of the 31 points by halftime. Iverson ended the game with a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds, and Knight had 22 points. The both struggled from the three, shooting a combined 3/19.

In the second half the Jets did get some production from locals Theo Johnson (11 points) and Haize Walker (eight points), but overall it was another poor offensive showing from the visitors, shooting 34% from the field.

Manawatu will have to regroup quickly as they will now travel up north to Auckland to play the 2 Cheap Cars Supercity Rangers on Saturday.

The Sharks will have nine days to prepare for their next home game which should be a tough encounter with the Taylor Hawks.
